iPad like a budget cintiq :-)

Painting on the iPad
iPad Air 2:
I've been drooling over the wacom cintiq line for years, but as they cost more than the car I'm driving…I was THRILLED the moment I realized iPad had similar capabilities!
So I somehow managed to get my hands on a new iPad Air2 a couple months ago (thank you best boyfriend ever :-) which has an gorgeous display and fused screens giving a more touch responsive surface……  I was even more convinced it would be a great sketch tool, a stepping stone before the cintiq….and I need one!
-Clearly, the iPad is not a Cintiq…the Cintiq is a dedicated masterful art creation device for the most professional of all digital artists. It is superior in every respect, most importantly the tactile quality of pencil to paper is sublime. iPad is smooth glass and there's not getting around that. But as I am not a most masterful digital artist yet with a corresponding fund to work with…the iPad is in the realm of 'affordable'….love that :-)

App: Procreate
Best feature: LAYERS and anyone familiar with the adobe suite will appreciate having layers to work on.  Also, this app comes with a lot of brushes, easily adjustable color, brush diameter & opacity.
It will set you back about $5.99.  Compared to whatever astronomical amount I paid for Adobe CS4, that's a bargain!

Stylus:
Your cheap old blunt old whatever, whatever overpriced rubber nibbed aluminum straw BestBuy is pushing today…Here is the one I use.

Cool to see you opened your own blog! I'd like to see a post about how you work with layers. I have been wondering how to use them myself...

:)

Javi! hey, that's a good idea….it seems to be a common problem when people start using photoshop. I will follow up with a blog in a few days, but just to give an idea:
Imagine having a stack of papers made of clear plastic, you can change the order and move them around in relation to one another.
In the cat painting above I made a rough sketch, then put a layer under it where I put the color…that way I don't have to interrupt the sketch when working with color (but I can still see the sketch because it's layered on top).

But will return with a move visual blog :-)
